The artistic heritage of the organ is one that Pistoia takes very good care of, from the organ of the Fleming Willem Hermans, 1664, in the church of Santo Spirito in Pistoia to the organs of the Agati-Tronci school that can be found in many of the region's churches. From the 1700's to the early 1900's, two families of craftsmen were producing organs in Pistoia, the Agati and the Tronci. The quality of their instruments gave rise to a school of organ-making in Pistoia, known in many countries both in Europe and around the world. The Fondazione Accademia di musica italiana per organo in Pistoia keeps this tradition alive while also promoting this musical culture. Once assessed, catalogued and restored, we are able once again hear the voice of these organs and the great quantity of music written for this instrument.
Among the many musical events that Pistoia offers, the concerts organised by the Foundation and performed on the most important historic organs in churches across the region are not to be missed.
