Brigidini PDF Print E-mail

A renowned speciality of Lamporecchio, these small, crisp, golden wafers are made with egg, flour, sugar and aniseed. It is said that they were invented around the middle of the 16th century by the nuns of Santa Brigida, who made them to use up the mixture for the Host after a nun had made a mistake in its preparation. The addition of aniseed gave rise to the recipe that is still used today. Packaged in elegant boxes, brigidini are also sold in the classic long plastic wrapper seen at fairs and festivals, where stall holders prepare and package them on the spot.
